<p> RoadFish.com men’s lifestyle and finance magazine today shared tips for having a successful Memorial Day barbecue, from where to buy meat to which sides are best for grilling. RoadFish.com also gives a nod to an article by Consumer Reports, which gives advice on purchasing a budget-friendly grill that still cranks out quality food if you happen to be in need of a good gas grill for the upcoming holiday weekend and summer grilling season.</p>

<p>RoadFish.com shared advice from a Komo News article by Consumer Reports about which grills can turn out delicious food without breaking the bank. The testers at Consumer Reports tested close to one hundred grills, which cost anywhere from $  100 to $  2,500 apiece, to see where you can get the most bang for your buck without sacrificing any flavor or amenities. Testers performed several different experiments to see how each grill stood up, some of which included cooking food to check the quality of heat distribution. Dan DiClerico of Consumer Reports is quoted saying, “To see how evenly a grill cooks at lower temperatures, testers grill salmon steaks as well as chicken breasts. Now both those foods can easily dry out if the grill gets too hot.” Testers also grilled steaks, to see which of the grills has issues with flare-ups. Other tests were done sans food, but rather with a Thermocouple, which measures the evenness of the heat being distributed along the surface of the grill. </p>

<p>Consumer Reports found that some of the highest-priced grills ranked top in the performance department, but still found several quality grills that stood up to a challenge that are fairly easy on the wallet. DiClerico recommends the Char-Broil Classic, which can be purchased at Home Depot for $  200. DiClerico states, “It rated excellent for low-temperature cooking, and grilled up a very good steak, too.” Another top-ranked, low-cost grill was the Brinkman Grill model 810-2545 which Walmart carries. Consumer Reports that it’s a bit pricier than the Char-Broil Classic, but a great buy nonetheless. </p>

<p>RoadFish.com’s Senior staff writer is quoted as saying, “I absolutely love cooking food outside, on the grill. There’s something very nostalgic about it, especially if you’re having a party centered around barbecuing. Barbecues take me far back with childhood memories. I am not hosting the Memorial Day barbecue this year, but you’re likely to still find me around the grill, helping the host do up burgers, dogs, steaks, and whatever else is on the menu.” </p>

<p>RoadFish.com started off its tips for a successful barbecue by stating that one smart idea is to make any bash a potluck. In this way, it takes pressure (both time and money) off of the host so they can focus on the main dish. It also gets everyone involved, and can be a lot of fun for those that are participating to share a special recipe and see others enjoying their food. RoadFish.com’s Senior staff writer is quoted as saying, “I absolutely love going to potlucks or hosting them. How else do I get to have Aunt Mary’s famous potato salad, Grandma’s pepperoni cheese bread, and Uncle Sal’s antipasto platter all in one place? Plus it’s a blast making food for everyone to enjoy. It gets the whole family involved, and brings everyone together in a whole other way.” </p>

<p>RoadFish.com also recommends getting your meat in bulk, from someplace like Costco of another wholesale store. Whatever you don’t use, you can always freeze for later, and you’re likely to get more for your money than at a regular grocery store. One of Costco’s amazing deals that RoadFish.com highlighted is their 6-pack of 7 oz Applewood Bacon-wrapped Beef Filets, for only $  15.60. If you’re sticking with good ole fashioned burgers, Costco sells everything from frozen Angus beef patties to basic quarter pounders from $  15-$  26 for three pounds up to ten pounds of meat. Not to mention a 24-pack of hamburger buns for under $  4. </p>

<p>And lastly, RoadFish.com recommends using sides (if you are preparing both the entrée and sides dishes) that you can grill as well. This eliminates the need for extra food prep in advance, and the chef can put everything on the grill together and get bac to the bocce ball or volleyball game faster. RoadFish.com loves grilling asparagus and corn on the cob as two delicious and easy options. The men’s lifestyle and finance magazine urges grill masters to remember to soak ears of corn in water for at least 15 minutes before putting them on the grill, if you are opting to grill the corn husk-on. For simple but impressive (and scrumptious) dessert, one of RoadFish’s favorite ideas is cutting an apricot in half, coating it in sugar and cinnamon, grilling it for a few minutes and then topping it off with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. </p>

<p>Memorial Day is a federal holiday that originated to commemorate the fallen Union soldiers of the Civil War, but has since been extended as a holiday to honor all American servicemen and servicewomen who have passed away serving the United States. Memorial Day is celebrated annually on the last Monday in May and is the unofficial mark of the start of summer. As a fun fact, Memorial Day used to be known as “Decoration Day.” </p>

<p> In-home recycling is growing in popularity, but public-space recycling lags behind in many areas. Restaurants, malls, cafeterias, transportation centers, streets, parks and other locations produce thousands of tons of potentially recyclable materials. According to the Coalition for Resource Recovery, New York City’s accommodation, food service, and retail sectors alone send 2,400 tons of paper, metal, plastic, and glass to landfills each day.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>“There’s a tremendous opportunity to recycle more and make real strides on sustainability,” said Bruce Buchan, CEO of CleanRiver™ Recycling Solutions, a division of Midpoint International, Inc. “The solution is for the public and private entities responsible for public spaces to explore a systematic approach to recycling and composting.”</p>

<p>According to CleanRiver Recycling Solutions, which manufactures recycling containers and has worked with businesses, colleges and public agencies for over 20 years, there are five primary steps to more effective public space recycling:</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>1. Assess the waste stream to establish a baseline and identify waste diversion targets. Assess staff and financial resources required to support the program. Negotiate a contract with recycling/waste collection contractor(s).</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>2. Choose the right container because it does make a difference in the success of the program. Select the height, width and depth of the containers to accommodate traffic volume and to provide the right capacity for the collection schedule. Modular, interchangeable and configurable recycling bins easily adapt to changes in customer habits and the waste stream.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>3. Location of recycling containers is key. Put recycling bins in areas with high traffic flow to collect all the waste that is generated. Pair recycling containers with garbage containers on at least a 1:1 ratio and situate recycling containers beside garbage cans, rather than back-to-back.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>4. Show them how to recycle and what to throw away.  Recycling containers need impactful recycling graphics to guide the process. Use standard colors like blue and green. Keep the wording simple and use pictures of recyclable items wherever possible. A recycling station has about two to five seconds to educate an individual as to where to put their waste and recycling.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>5. Evaluate regularly to measure the effectiveness of the program on reducing waste and increasing retention of recyclable materials. These audits are used to fine-tune the program, including coordinating the size and location of containers, and the frequency of collection. </p>

John V. Patterson of Company K, would unlock a journey back into a remarkable episode in history. Tremewan shares the life and struggles of a man caught up in the daily grind and peril of war in “As near Hell As I ever expect to be…” </p>

<p>Who was John V. Patterson? What happened to him and his family? Did he survive the war? How did the letters end up in Flint, Michigan? These questions formed the cornerstones upon which Tremewan’s mission began; a mission that took him to battlefields, graveyards, museums, county seats, libraries and old bookstores. </p>

<p>In September 1861, 27-year old John V. Patterson left his young wife, Victoria, and their two babies in their farm to join Lincoln’s call to save the Union. In November, Victoria Patterson received a message with the despondent phrase “As near Hell As I ever expect to be…” written in the inside address. Over the next four years, an exchange of letters revealed a young soldier and husband gripped by sickness and imprisonment and his attempts to escape. Following each letter, Tremewan includes notes which elaborate the historical context of the correspondence. This account is not a comprehensive history of the period nor is it a deep analysis of the Civil War; it is a series of snapshots that paint a striking picture of the lives embroiled in battle and irrevocably affected by war.</p>

<br />Born and raised in Flint, Michigan, Paul Tremewan holds a B.A. from the University of Michigan, an M.A. from Eastern Michigan University, and post-masters work at Wayne State University. <p> Craftsman Tools released the new C3 19.2-volt 3/8” cordless impact wrench, and ToolSelect put it in the hands of DIY tool tester Kurt Dufendach, who had an overall positive experience with the tool, giving it an overall rating of 4.5 stars out of five.</p>

<p>The cordless impact wrench was designed to be used by mechanics, and uses a more compact design than Craftsman’s ½” impact wrench to let users get into tighter spaces. An anvil-retention ring helps with secure socket connections while the 19.2-volt variable-speed motor lets users operate the tool between 0 and 2,500 RPM and up to 3,500 impacts per minute.</p>

<p>“The first thing I did with the tool was take apart one of my motorcycles,” says Dufendach, who fixes motorcycles as a hobby. “The tool had a lot of power and sped the job up significantly.”&#13;<br />
<br />Dufendach also used the tool to put up some backpaneling while working on his fireplace. He notes the tool was able to drive lag bolts well, however the battery drained fairly quickly. When working on his motorcycles, though, Dufendach says the battery lasts a very long time.</p>

<p>The tool comes with a 19.2-volt NiCd battery and a one-hour charger and is covered by a Craftsman one-year limited warranty.</p>

<p>Dufendach rated the Craftsman cordless impact wrench four stars out of five in relation to performance and design, and five out of five stars in both quality and value, for an overall rating of 4.5 stars.</p>

<p> Bernstein Liebhard LLP is pleased to announce that on April 13, 2012 partner Jeffrey S. Grand was named to the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee (“PSC”) in the following actions:  In re: C.R. Bard, Inc., Pelvic Repair System Products Liability Litigation (“MDL No. 2187”); In re: American Medical Systems, Inc., Pelvic Repair Systems Products Liability Litigation (“MDL No. 2325”); In re: Boston Scientific Corp., Pelvic Repair Systems Products Liability Litigation (“MDL No. 2326”); and In re: Ethicon, Inc., Pelvic Repair System Products Liability Litigation (“MDL No. 2327”) by Chief Judge Joseph R. Goodwin.*  All of the federal transvaginal mesh MDLs are currently underway in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia.  As described in the orders, Judge Goodwin approved a singular PSC to coordinate across all four transvaginal mesh MDLs pending before the court.    </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>As a member of the PSC in each transvaginal mesh MDL, Mr. Grand will assist in leading and coordinating the litigations against these manufacturers on behalf of individuals who were allegedly injured as a result of having undergone surgical placement of vaginal mesh.  In response to receiving this appointment, Mr. Grand commented “We look forward to working with the other attorneys on the PSC and moving this litigation forward on behalf of all those injured by defective vaginal mesh implants.”</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Previously, on July 26, 2011, Mr. Grand was named Co-Liaison Counsel in In re Pelvic Mesh/Gynecare Litigation, No. 6341-10 (N.J. Super Ct.), and In re Pelvic Mesh Litigation/Bard No. L-6339-10 (N.J. Super. Ct.), which are two consolidated actions of all the vaginal mesh lawsuits filed in New Jersey state court.  These state court actions are pending before the Honorable Carol E. Higbee in the Superior Court of New Jersey Law Division, Atlantic County.   </p>

<p>Mr. Grand’s most recent appointment follows his extensive experience in other high-profile cases involving defective medical devices and dangerous drugs including Vioxx, Fosamax and Yaz.  He has supervised the day-to-day management of complex, multi-party mass tort litigation in state and federal courts and multi-district litigation throughout the United States, and has served on discovery and administrative committees in these litigations.  He has served as a member of the trial teams that obtained a $  47.5 million verdict for Vioxx-related cardiovascular injury in Humeston v. Merck &amp; Co., in New Jersey Superior Court in 2007, and several plaintiff victories in the Chinese-Manufactured Drywall Products Liability Litigation in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana. </p>

<p>Federal Transvaginal Mesh MDL And State Vaginal Mesh Litigation Involve Similar Claims</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The four transvaginal mesh MDL actions pending in federal court involve similar allegations against pelvic mesh litigation manufacturers C.R. Bard, American Medical Systems, Boston Scientific and Ethicon.  Similar to the New Jersey state court actions, plaintiffs filing lawsuits in the federal transvaginal mesh MDLs allege that these manufacturers produced and sold defective vaginal mesh products, which are used to treat pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence.  </p>

<p>“Every minute that you take to deal with these issues will assist your agent to get the best possible price for your home, and be ready to deal with the required negotiations, without having to come back to you again and again about issues that need attention,” Wagg said. “If you want to move your home onto the financial fast track–get moving and get prepared.”</p>

<p>Wagg is offering the following tips for consideration:</p>

<p>1)         Sell it faster by following the Boy Scout motto, “Be prepared.” Once a real estate agent has been selected, he or she will require a lot of information to assist in determining the ultimate sales price of a home.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>“Some of this information will take time to collect and organize, so begin your research as early as possible. Doing this will save your agent’s preparation time and can get your home on the market sooner,” Wagg said. “Even better, with complete and comprehensive information, you could significantly increase your sale price because you can prove and justify its value.”</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>2)         Find the paperwork and permits that prove what improvements were made to the home and when. It can add amazing value to a home’s sale price when it is proven that these things were completed with a reliable company and the proper permits. If this information cannot be found, begin an immediate search. Permits will be on file with the city, and, given sufficient lead time, builders and repair people can research and “pull” the records from their files.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>3)         Decide what needs to be disclosed to potential buyers. California law requires that the homeowner to disclose issues to potential buyers. Ask the real estate agent what needs to be disclosed, take time to investigate all parts of the home, make a list and be completely honest in evaluations.  </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>“Decide ahead of time what you will be prepared to fix and pay for, and what you are not able to afford to do,” Wagg said. “It will save huge amounts of negotiation time and help your agent get the best possible price for your home.”</p>

<p>4)         Make a plan to address important issues that need correction. All homes are going to need repair and replacement of things that will enhance the sale of the home and make it more attractive. Do some preliminary research about the cost of the repairs that will need to be done, and use the Internet for all kinds of suggestions and ideas that will address problems.</p>
